About Us

Welcome to Mountville Football!

Mountville Football places its strongest emphasis on player development, not just winning games. Skill-building is prioritized at every age level, with a focus on proper technique, football IQ, and safe, age‑appropriate fundamentals. MYAA’s coaches are 100% volunteer, experienced, and deeply committed to youth development. They teach the game the right way, build confidence, and serve as positive mentors on and off the field.

Our program participates in the Capital Area Football League (CFA), the largest youth football league in Central Pennsylvania. Originally founded as an independent Catholic football league made up of former CYO programs in the Harrisburg area, the CFA is now widely recognized for its organized structure, consistent officiating, and commitment to helping players grow as athletes and individuals. Teams are grouped so players compete against others with similar size and skill, keeping games fun, competitive, and development‑focused. This balanced approach reduces lopsided outcomes and creates an environment where every athlete can succeed.

MYAA values playing in the CFA for its higher level of competition.. Defenses are more disciplined, offenses are more explosive, and very few teams can be beaten on talent alone. This elevated level of play challenges our athletes, accelerates their development, and prepares them for future success at the high school and college levels.

**Any child is eligible to play Mountville Football, regardless of which school district they attend. **

Divisions

Smurfs (Ages 5–7)
An introductory level focused on fun, fundamentals, and teamwork. Players learn the basics of running, catching, throwing, tackling, and proper stance in a safe, encouraging environment. The primary goal is building confidence and developing a genuine love for the game.

Peewees (Ages 8–9)
Players begin developing stronger fundamentals and a clearer understanding of game concepts. Emphasis is placed on proper technique, teamwork, sportsmanship, and learning basic offensive and defensive positions. Competition increases slightly at this level, while player development remains the top priority.

Ponies (ages 10-11)
Players at this stage advance their football IQ and sharpen their individual skills. Practices emphasize position‑specific development, understanding game strategy, learning blocking schemes, and recognizing defensive alignments. Athletes gain increased game experience and begin preparing for the expectations, speed, and structure of middle school–level play.

Midgets (Ages 12-13)
Players at this level are prepared for the expectations, speed, and physicality of high school football. Training emphasizes advanced techniques, improved strength and conditioning, and a deeper understanding of both offensive and defensive schemes. The core focus becomes discipline, leadership, and accountability, helping athletes mature as players and teammates while building the habits needed for success at the next level.

Concussions

Football carries a real risk of concussion, and it’s important for coaches, players, and parents to understand the signs and symptoms of head injuries. Knowing when to report concerns—and how to properly rest and recover—helps protect every athlete’s long‑term health.

Please take a few minutes to watch the NCAA concussion‑education videos linked below. After viewing them, have a conversation with your athlete about why reporting any injury to a coach right away is essential for their safety and continued participation.
